Are they allowed to charge me more for the unit rate? On Martins page it says unit rate 28.34p. I realise that while the unit rate may be more expensive, the standing charge is cheaper.  I am not a mathematician but I think it will still work out more.  I am not sure what to do.  Should I do nothing because come October and the next rise I should be 'quids' in. Would welcome other opinions please.
You have a fixed tariff, the Ofgem cap does not apply to fixed tariffs, only to the standard variable tariff, so yes they are allowed to charge above the cap.
It looks like your fix is close enough to the capped variable tariff that you should stay on it as you'll be better off after October when the SVT goes up again...

"SSE, the electricity generator and network company, has upgraded its profit forecasts to nearly £1bn for its latest financial year as soaring gas prices more than made up for disappointing renewable energy output."

I am not suggesting SSE is a bad company but this is an example of the profiteering going on while consumers suffer.

Energy companies don't seem to be suffering from this crisis, something doesn't add up here.
I think the consumer is getting the "wool pulled the eyes"

Trouble is there is no one to stand up in government to help, they've sold off the network to private enterprise to create profit for investors.

In March I was updating my budget and made a n error. I forgot that I had duel fule and allowed the same amount for both fuels in my budget. Today I recalculated my payment in October with a 1.7% increase and was s=amused (sort of!) to discover that the new guesstimate was nearly the amount I accidentally allowed! Frankly these increases are not sustainable. Between increases in local tax and income tax (fixing of personal allowances) we are in an impossible situation!
