When do Energy companies have to confirm price increase

I'm with E.On Next have been moved from Octopus on to NextFlex. I have yet to receive an email, letter, notification on my account or info in my bill that the prices are going up on 1st April. I know they will but aren't they under some obligation to formally notify and if they haven't does this mean I can eek out the lower charges for another month?

Ofgem removed the explicit requirement for 30 days' notice a couple of years ago.
When did you join E.ON Next? What rates have they given you?

  • Ofgem now uses the term ‘reasonable’ in respect of notice. When notice is given then your options are to do nothing; agree a new tariff with the existing supplier, or switch. As a supplier has 5 days in which to execute a mutual variation of contract; ie, move you from one tariff to another, then one might argue that notice given 5 days+ before a price increase might be deemed to be ‘reasonable’. This would still give you time to initiate a supplier switch with tariff protection until the transfer goes through.
  • @QrizB I was moved at the end of last year from Igloo to E.On Next
    My rates are listed as:

    Electric
    Tariff Name Next Flex
    Product Type Variable Payment Method
    Direct Debit Unit Rate 20.530p/kWh
    Standing Charge 22.893p/day (£83.56/year)
    Price Guaranteed Until Not applicable
    Early Exit Fee None

    Gas
    Tariff Name Next Flex
    Product Type Variable
    Payment Method Direct Debit
    Unit Rate 3.860p/kWh
    Standing Charge 24.879p/day (£90.81/year)
    Price Guaranteed Until Not applicable
    Early Exit Fee None Estimated

As such they haven't given me new rates but I can see from their tariffs page that the future rates are much higher.
