The standing charges are reasonable, the gas rate isn't completely awful, but in my opinion 42p/kWh for electricity is taking the mickey.

Just seeing if fixing on any tariff had been worth it since companies are looking to lock in customers with extortionate prices.  Agreed that prices look way to high.  

For reference the variable rates are as follows:

Electric standing charge 41.66 per day 
Electric unit rate 29.48 per kWh 
Gas standing charge 27.22 per day

Gas unit rate 7.32 per kWh

From those figures variable seems like the obvious option until we see what things look like in October
