Outfox - replacing E7 meter with single rate smart meter?

We have an Economy 7 meter we inherited with this house. We don't have storage heaters and use very little electricity overnight. For the past year we've been on a single rate tarriff with OTM, but I've just realised that we've been moved to a dual rate since we came off the fix. They've offered a smart meter so we can go onto a single rate, and in the chat said this would be on standard variable rate.

Is there another option I could move to (not Scottish Power) that will give me a single standard variable rate with my E7 meters as we've got so much going on at the moment I don't really want the faff of changing the meter.

OTM can still charge you at a single rate with your current meter. Ask them again.

Many suppliers will happily bill an E7 meter at single rate.  However, many won't accept you as a new customer at present.  EDF will accept you on the SVT but only if you phone them, so that would solve your problem (although their customer service doesn't win prizes).
But have you persisted with OTM?  All the companies are pushing smart meters (and expensive fixed tariffs) but if OTM have offered single rate before there's no reason why they shouldn't now.

I should say our fix ended on 2nd Feb, I've only just noticed I'm being charged E7 on the new rates.

I've just been in an online chat and was told this:

We are not able to have our customers on a single rate variable tariff. If you would like to go onto a single rate then you will need to move onto a fixed tariff. However, I recommend you stay on the tariff you are on as this is the cheapest tariff available for you

I don't understand why I can't be on a single rate when I have been on single rate for the last year.
(04:07:27) Charlie: You were on a single rate as you were on a fixed rate tariff. When you moved onto the variable you moved onto 2 rates.
(04:07:54) Charlie: To be moved back onto a single rate you will have to move onto a fixed rate tariff, but as I have explained to you, this will be significantly more expensive for you

Either Charlie isn't the sharpest tool in the box, or OTM have a policy that anyone wanting a tariff change must take a fix.
What are the E7 rates you're currently on? Do you know the rates that will apply from April?

Thanks Gerry, I've done the maths and I'd only be about £26 better off moving to EDF it seems.  Think I'll have to go back to early morning ironing again when I've worked out when the night rate finishes, and running the dishwasher overnight.

If they’re doing what most seem to be and just running at the cap, it’ll be broadly similar to the EDF rates I assume.
