Top up Gas Card

Just wanted to draw something to your attention
I read with interest that you suggested we top up our prepaid gas card for gas meter now to save money. I thought it was a brilliant idea and thought I’d put a lump sum of £2000 on my card from my savings. However I was told by a shop that does top ups that they can only put £49 a day on my card. I researched British Gas Site and they advocate you can put more on your card but only up to £900. This is the maximum amount your meter would allow you to top up . Is this true ? Also what if I top up my meter by the maximum amount British Gas states , £900 and then “ store” another £900 on my card for when it runs out ? My question is … will my money be safe on the card , how long will it be safe and will I still be benefitting and getting gas at todays price instead of the increased price ? I’m
Sorry to ask alot if questions but I don’t know who else to turn to and it’s a lot of money to lose.

Please please can you advise ?
