Flight Cancellation Insurance/Offers

It's been a long time since we travelled (pre-covid) and we're now looking at booking a long-haul holiday.
How should we manage the risk of cancelled flights etc if there is another lock-down? Should we get separate insurance to cover the risk or is it best to go with the cover on the booking sites (which can add significant cost to each flight)?
I read here that always book using a credit card, which we will - but is there a difference in cover between Visa and Mastercard (We'll be using Mastercard)?
Thank you

It doesn't matter which credit card you use.
With regards to the insurance, you need to establish what you want to insure against and then find suitable cover. If your flights are cancelled, you will be refunded in any case, so that's not a problem.
Also consider how you book - a package holiday will give you greater safety.0 -
if flights are cancelled you should be refunded.
However, if you are unable to travel but the flight still operates then you need appropriate travel insurance cover.
You need an insurance policy that covers you for government restrictions preventing travel. Many people have found to their cost that their policy did not cover that.
Read the policy document carefully to make sure you know what you are covered for.
Book with a reputable travel agent or direct. Avoid cheap, internet agents.0
