  • In the short term will turning it off once the water is heated and turning it back on again say an hour before use be a stupid idea?

I saw someone in another thread talking about Legionnaires' disease and the need for the water to be above a certain temp

You only need to bring the water up to 60 degrees once a week. It's not normally an issue with gas boilers, as they operate at that temperature, or above. It is heat pumps, that operate more efficiently at lower temperatures that need a periodic boost.

    Definitey a good idea!

You may need to experiment with how long and when to switch it on, but leaving it on 24/7 is akin to heating water by burning £20 notes  :)
