I have economy 7 heaters at my property and they have broken and I was wondering which is the best way to go as they are expensive to buy and with the price of energy at the moment. My question is do I replace for the same or are these new eco heaters the way to go. Any body done this or have either of these please help. Thanks

Hi,what do you mean broken, storage heaters are cheap and easy to fix?2

Aside from the excellent point made above...... You don't want to even think about replacing something that runs off E7 with something that runs of peak-rate electricity. If you have the option of gas or oil then it may be worth considering (although you have a high capital cost for the boiler, rads and pipework). But, expensive though electric heating is (well, all forms of heating these days!), E7 is very much the lesser of two evils in terms of cost.

1. There is no such thing as an eco heater, only pseudo scientific advertising for ordinary heaters.
2. There is virtually nothing to go wrong in a storage heater, other than the controls. What makes you think the existing ones are broken?0 -
Because its over 30 year old and not heating up and I've had an electrician out to it. The socket has power but the heater doesn't work. And ok theses new eco oiled filled ones I mean0

The heaters that I have in my house are expensive to buy new. I have no option other than electric heating. I have seen some oil filled electric heaters and was simply interested in anybody had these and the costing to run then if anybody had upgraded from economy 7 etc0

Don't fall for any adverts that claim that their heaters are more efficient because they are filled with oil, clay or magic pixie dust. They aren't any more efficient than a cheap heater from your local electrical store. Running heaters on daytime electricity when you have E7 is throwing money away, however efficient the manufacturers claim they are.An old-fashioned storage heater is a box if bricks with a heating element and a thermostat. There's not many things that can go wrong, and most of the things that can go wrong are replaceable. If you want better efficiency, you can get better storage heaters now. Dimplex Quantum is the well-known brand, but they will be expensive. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
