Bulgaria sunny Beach

Hi all

I am due to travel to Bulgaria for 2 weeks for my my honeymoon at sunny Beach at the start of the season. We are both concerned about the current situation in tbe Ukraine and also that there's only two countries away from Ukraine and also it can be reached by sea.

What are your thoughts to this.

The plane could crash, the hotel could burn down in the night….do you not feel concerned about those and other issues?

The situation could improve or get worse.

When are you expecting to travel?

What is the 'start of the season'?

If you happen to be booked with Jet2 they have cancelled holidays to Bulgaria up to the end of May earlier today, so if that was your operator, your concern is over!

For reference, this is the UK Government travel advice page for Bulgaria:

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/bulgaria

Generally speaking tour operators will follow Government advice and only cancel holidays when the government advise “against all but essential travel” which isn’t the case for Bulgaria at this time. That said tour operators/airlines can of course voluntarily stop operating at any time.

If @Alan_Bowen says Jet2 are pulling holidays then I suspect it is the case as he knows is stuff, they may not have announced it publically yet. I have read that they are suspending flights to Poland until May, again nothing from Jet2 though.

I have found some Information but we leave from Newcastle so it doesn't look like one of the affected ones.

Found the following on travel Weekly: Jet2holidays cancels Poland and Bulgaria departures | Travel Weekly

The article says cancels "some" flights and holidays from "some" UK airports.  Heard a clip on the radio news this morning saying the same.  But it sounds at the moment as this is a collapse in demand issue rather than any safety/security concerns.  Flights and holidays to Bulgaria are still on sale from Newcastle from the first week of May so it seems as though yours hasn't been cancelled.

There's nothing to stop you calling Jet2 and asking them if there is an option to cancel or move, but at the moment that will likely be at their standard customer cancellation T&Cs - but it doesn't hurt to ask.  Something to keep an eye on as it's a dynamic situation.
