EV Tariff Question

Hi MSE team

I was on a utility point fix, now SOLR to EDF on SVR.
Currently paying
Elec 20.6p khw going to 25p 1st April
Gas 4p kw to 7.4p 1st April

Just got an EV.
EDF do a tariff for 4.5p kwh between 12 and 5am but 38p khw all other times
Gas 11.58p kwh (you have to have gas)
Fixed until Feb 24

My elec usage 2800 khw annual
gas 15700 annual

Seems a massive con, forcing me to pay 100's more for the gas
Could I keep my gas with EDF and move to a special EV tariff with another supplier.
Not sure who to go with?

THanks
Rob

Octopus are generally reagrded as the best place for EV tariffs, but I think you'll find the gas price heavy there, too. Having said that, todays exhorbitant price may be next week's bargain.

Can you use some of the cheap leccy to displace gas?

Is there an exit fee on that EV tariff?
You could take it for the summer (when you don't use much gas) and heat your water overnight using cheap electricity, then consider switching away in September/October before you need to turn the central heating on?

Agreed. I am on Go Faster and we load shift whenever we can; for example, we reheat our HW cylinder on electricity rather than gas. The gas and electricity thermostats are at the same tank level and we find that electricity reheating uses about 60% of the energy that gas reheating would require.
