I have heard rumours that in April energy prices 'could' go up by 70%

I was one of the household where the energy firm went bust and we were put with Octopus energy

My current tariff is as follows :-

Flexible Avro

Unit rates.   Electricity: 21.80p per kWh ,  Gas: 4.02p per kWh
Standing charges   Electricity: 23.50p per day,   Gas: 26.11p per d:-1:

Should I consider a fixed tariff ... or is this one a decent one ?

Which fixes are showing as available to you, and how do the unit rates and standing charges compare?

Your flexible tariff will increase by around 54% on April 1st. Compare any fixed tariffs to that and factor in any possible increase in October. Which maybe 20% and upwards.

You're on a capped variable tariff. At some stage it will increase but will continue to be capped.
I very much doubt that you will find a cheaper fixed tariff, although some of the current fixed tariffs *might* be cheaper following the next increase in October.

Because it's called "Flexible Avro", and the forum has been discussing it for months :)
Yes, it will go up, and (if you're Ofgem's average user) it will go up by around 54%.
Octopus will contact you with your new rates, probably in the next few days. you can expect them to be as shown in this table.

October can change your tariff at any time but can't increase it past the cap.
54% is only applicable if you are the exact same usage as the examples by Ofgen. Your actual bill will go up by anything depending on your usage. Your gas for example could go up by nearly 100%.
