My provider is British Gas, both electric and gas... the debt was paid off in 2018, what I meant was would BG tell me if it was a smart meter or not...
It certainly isn't a smart meter, and it is very unlikely that it will have the tariff updated by any means other than the key.
Technically it can be done, but it is very unlikely as it would require someone to do the update manually.

I believe they aren't smart but if your provider is Scottish Power, I think it's that provider, have said they will increase the prices on any remaining credit on prepayment meters, smart or otherwise, on 1/4/22. ML has reported them to OFGEM.
What would be the basis for reporting them to Ofgem?
Scottish Power is perfectly entitled to put the prices up on 1/4/22 if they have the means to do it...

I don't know...... But if you buy something on the 31st, and they then increase its price the day after you bought it, don't think that's cricket.. surely pre pay is pre pay, pay and buy before use of..

Couldn't post response any other way, sorry....

You are not buying it on the 31st, you are putting a credit onto your meter which will be used to pay for it when you use it.
If you were buying electricity/gas then the meter would be showing you the kWh you had left to use, but it doesn't, it shows you the money you have left to pay for the kWh and standing charges as you use it...
