Getting Outstanding Bill Emails from Bust Electricity Provider (For Money I Don’t Owe)!

I was with Solarplicity over 5 years ago but changed to a new provider. Solarplicity shortly afterwards went bust. Before I moved to the new provider I paid my final bill & thought that would be the last of it!
Unfortunately I continue to get emails asking for an outstanding final payment from Solarplicity’s administrators threatening to take me to court (I know it’s not a scam as I have checked through the necessary channels).
In 2020 I sent an email with proof of the final payment that I made while over the phone to the administrator & got a confirmation email that the matter was resolved. Last month (February 2022) I have now got another email requesting payment. Obviously I won’t be making any payment…

My question is how do I stop them sending these unnerving emails for money I do not owe. I really don’t want to get into email & phone exchanges as the staff seem pretty incompetent, don’t answer the phone for ages etc…Is there any legal footing I have to get them to stop!

You know, I have the exact same issue with Symbio.

I've written to the administrators saying I consider the texts and emails harassment and to make sure they solve the issue before it gets passed to a debt collector like they're threatening to do.

I have no confidence that, despite them confirming by email it's a mistake, some automated process won't end up sending it to a debt collector!

Link here  to the "Prove It" letter to be sent when you're being contacted by mail about a debt you do not believe you owe. You ONLY need to respond at all if the contact is hard copy, in the post - NOT to texts or emails. And absolutely do NOT add any further personal information to the Prove It - simply send the bare letter with only the essential bits added. Any additional information you provide can (and has been known to be!) used by a DCA to make their claim seem more convincing!

In 9 our of 10 cases these sorts of letters are simply a fishing trip - quite literally an attempt to see if someone who has a name similar to the debtor, or lives at the same address that the debtor was once at - will pay the debt and make life easier. NEVER pay a debt that you don't owe - not even just to make it go away or because it's only a small amount.

Well, you can't stop them sending them, but you can block the email address they come from.  You have in writing that the matter was previously resolved (and I assume that you no longer owe anything) so you don't need to engage further at all.  Anyway - if there is a genuine debt and they actually want to chase it formally, they'll need to write to you by hard copy.

Thank you for your reply, I was thinking of blocking the email address, but wanted to check whether there were any legislations such as the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR), that may give more weight to the issue…anyway I definitely don’t owe them any money (in fact when I moved to the new provider I found out that Solarplicity had over charged me my hundred of pounds)… it is just strange that they have kept my details & keep emailing me.

Yes I understand what you mean, Solarplicity’s administrators seem pretty incompetent & it’s for this reason I want to be cautious, I don’t want a false country court judgment attached to my address/name.

Yeh - there's no point sending a "prove it" letter like suggested here, as they acknowledge there is no debt it's just a systems error.

I'm now being ignored by all customer services and the administrators when I try to call or email - but they're still continuing to email me threats...
