Moved on to the Variable tariff with EDF after our fixed ended 1st of March. The rates seem in line with the new prices from April.

Surely this is illegal if so?

You'd think that, wouldn't you? EDF, sadly, move in mysterious ways.

Some providers are showing the new prices now to show you what it will be come April because it's one of the most frequency asked questions they get. You can assume that current prices will be at the cap until April. Just make sure you submit regular meter readings upto and including 31st March else they will estimate which may end up costing you more.
