At the moment the only thing I have actually got on my shopping list is some tinned pilchards as I like to have them in store and I've used up the last tin.I like them either in a salad or if I have bread ,on toast as a light lunch, I sprinkle a little grated cheese on top and brown off under the grill.
But I do have sardines that I can use instead in the cupboard so its not vital I haven't been food shopping this month yet and will go next Monday I have been eating from my freezer as I want to reduce it down so I can defrost it. It means since `christmas I have cut rught back on food shopping and have a roll over of cash to use the following month.
But using up stuff in stock has meant some different mealsbut its surprising what you can manage to cobble together.yesterdays lunch was tomato, beetroot, last of the Christmas chutney ,some grated cheese and some crackers , with a diced up apple, and some Boursin cheese spread on the crackers. Actually it was rather nice and 'different'.
I have some cheese and broccoli flan in the freezer today for lunch and its defrosting on the side at the moment I have some coleslaw to use up today so that with a tomato and some more of the beetroot and maybe some cheese will do for todays lunch.Bit more wriggle room in the freezer8 -

This month I decided to start a small stockpile of items, with everything thats going on with Russia and bills going through the roof, plus a little bit of uncertainty around our finances I was getting a bit worried about it all and thought for my own mental wellbeing I would do it. So I've added on a couple of additional items to each shop I do, and will continue to do so as long as I can afford it.
So far I've got a bag of bread flour as well as self raising and plain, oil, 4 tins of tuna, 4 tins of beans, pasta and lasagne sheets, some teabags and coffee. I plan on putting some shelves up and creating a little pantry under my stairs. I want to add a few more tins, yeast and other bits and bobs we use regularly and will rotate them out. By no means will I have a huge amount of things, but will feel much more settled knowing I have things in should we struggle in the coming months.11 -
I think stocking up on anything is pretty pointless because if crazy mad Putin goes nuclear, within two hours, 85 million people could be wiped out and the rest of us would just die slowly of radiation poisoning.
If you can get to a bunker or similar, then water would be the first priority. Can't survive more than a few days without that. A bunker might protect from the blast, but as soon as people leave it, they would start picking up radiation.
There's a rumour on Twitter, that Putin has bowel cancer and would be quite happy to detonate. Scary stuff.2 -

Whatever the cause, the effect is millions around the world reliant on the World Food Bank starving to death because Ukraine has had to conserve its own supplies of grains. This whole war is so unnecessary. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.2 -

Indeed, there are many rumours of possible dementia and/or Terminal illness. Whether there is any grounds to these rumours, I don't know.February wins: Theatre tickets8 -

People keep talking about Putin as if he is out of control and we are heading to nuclear war. I wouldnt be surprised if he is spreading these rumors of an illness himself. His entire career if built off the back of misinformation.
The Ukrainian invasion has happened just before spring planting takes place. Ukraine exports large amounts of wheat and sunflower oil (I'm sure there are other things). Due to sanctions on top of other factors we are now facing spiralling oil and gas prices, and OPEC are not increasing production.
We keep hearing about these sanctions "hurting Russia" but it seems like the most damage will be done to the west. Can most people afford the predicted energy price rises alone without even considering that everything else will increase in price?
So I wouldn't be concerned about nuclear war/fallout but instead about the recession/depression we seems to be heading into.SPC #046 2021- £293.26

Putin’s not well. That’s a fact. Look at how his face appears bloated.
Ive works with bowel cancer patients for two decades and there is ‘no look’.

On the second point we can help ourselves by preparing as much as we can within our means whilst remembering and trying to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We've grown used to being able to have what we want, when we want. It's going to hurt.
Yesterday I went to Sainsbugs for a few things I needed but also bought some reduced to clear items - 2 each of tins of chopped tomatoes, chickpeas and red kidney beans. I use these on a regular basis so have put one of each in my pantry and the others went in the food bank collection.Be kind to others and to yourself too.11
