Amaretto is currently £9.19 in Sainsburys...

...for 50cl. Wondering if it is cheaper anywhere else.

I have just discovered this tasty drink, have only tried it with coke and ice so far but I have been told to try it with apple juice and also with cranberry juice which I intend to.

Also hoping that I can get some more ideas of how to serve it.
One of my friends has it in coffee but I don't like coffee, I do like the idea of having it in a warm drink though, has anyone tried it with hot chocolate?

Grateful for any tips.

  • Can make a wonderful trifle with battenburg in bottom than fruit ie raspberries, than amaretto biscuits with a good helping of amaretto poured over topped with custard. Delicious

Have you tried it on it's own. Like a brandy, in a big glass. Warm it with your hands, it's georgous. I used to drink it on holiday, many years ago. Very cheap in Greece at the time, but not well known over here. Must be warm to get the full flavour. The other extreem is on the rocks. Just lots of ice, and drink it neat. Enjoy. Polly

  • My favourite drink:beer: :D

I love it with cream or full fat milk and lots of ice (trust me it works!). Or i add it to Baileys which cuts the richness of the Baileys just right.

Have a look on the net for cocktail recipies, i used to know loads and theyre all really nice ;)

Mmm, Baileys, Amaretto and loads of ice sounds lovely. I am gonna have to get myself a bottle of Baileys substitute (one drink where I can barely taste the difference in the 'real' one and the 'copies.'
Ooh, thinking about it work (M&S) has a Hot or Not Chocolate Cream which can be had with loads of ice or warmed up. I could have that warm with a decent dash of Amaretto, possibly topped up with milk. Mmm, gotta get myself a bottle quick!
  • Bourbon and Amaretto (equal measure) and top it up with coke, fantastic cocktail.

Which Amaretto is it (What percentage?) £9 for a 50cl bottle doesn't sound that cheap to me.
    .....

  • It's the same price in Tesco, down from £11.40 - This is the normal price for Amaretto di saronno

    It is the Disaronno Amaretto.
How much is Bourbon? I would rather get something that I know I can drink on its own like Baileys, Malibu or Archers though. I don't drink loads!

Thanks to everyone for their input so far, keep the ideas coming!
I am def gonna have to try some Amaretto with hot choc, really warming to that idea now (excuse the pun).
Now I need to find a decent hot choc! I'm talking myself into spending a lot of money here!

Lidl sells their Amaretto for £8.20. It's not the Disaronno stuff but it is 28%, unlike the other cheaper bottles i've seen which have reduced alcohol. It's also 70cl and not 50.

Anyway, u save urself about £4 off the Tesco price if u buy Disaronno.

Haven't tested it yet tho as i'm on atkins lol but when i do i'll let ya know :rotfl:
