Fan oven fan not spinning

Our Hotpoint fan oven, the fan doesn’t work. I replaced the element last year as it had failed and recently the fan doesn’t run when you turn the oven on.  After about fifteen minutes you can see the heating element glowing red/orange, but the fan isn’t running.  I’ve had the internal cover off and the fan will spin freely by hand, so doesn’t look like it’s catching on anything.  According the the other half, it does start spinning eventually, then the oven warms up quickly.

Any ideas please? I’m happy to pull the oven out and replace the fan motor if it is that, just wanted to check it isn’t something silly I’ve missed.

It usually needs a new fan motor, as in my Hotpoint oven a while back. In the meantime will it spin if you give it a nudge? I just nudged mine, with a knife through the grill, to get it going each time while I waited for the new motor to come.

It must surely either be a faulty fan itself, or a poor electrical connector to it. Since you are happy to check it out, see if there's any sign of overheated/scorching on the fan motor terminals, or on the windings - usually covered in tape. Any melted/darkened bits?

If it's a poor connector, just undo, clean up, smear with copper-grease or similar, slightly tighten the spades, and refit.

The actual oven fan - which is what you are talking about - should come on at exactly the same time as the element - ie as soon as you ask it to! And go off at the same time as well. Bear in mind that if you run the oven without this fan functioning, you run the very strong risk of blowing your oven element as it'll overheat.

Thank you people, have just ordered a replacement fan and motor assembly and will fit it this week.

thanks again… just need to limp this oven on for a few more months until we replace the kitchen
