I was wrong here. I misread the bills.
Don't worry, we all make mistakes. This does bring us back to my initial reply above though. I really would choose to not waste time/energy stressing about this.
    Appreciate what your saying.

It isn't a stress. Just annoyed me a bit. 🙃
It would annoy me too if I thought something had been agreed but the opposite happened! But my guess is someone agreed to something that they didn't really know how to implement or may not even really be possible with their systems.

    Edit:

So I've overreacted here. I'm still awaiting a reply from supplier about why the smart meter readings were being used after months of not using them. But everything else, from what others have informed me on, is redundant.

The simple answer I suspect is that they are entitled to use them for your monthly readings regardless of any request to the contrary.
You can stop them using the half-hour data though.

  • I personally don't like smart meters. I don't like relying on my supplier to take readings on my behalf.

Bluntly, I don't trust anyone but myself to take meter readings.

    Hi,
just provide your own readings monthly, and keep a wee spreadsheet to keep an eye on usage and cost.

  • It is not possible for a meter that produces index readings to produce different results UNLESS….

the readings are taken at different times by the smart team and the homeowner OR

billing is based on the R1 register and the homeowner provides a total index reading. (Yes it has happened) OR

for gas, the homeowner provides a reading in kWh when it should be in cubic feet or metres

Three years on, I have not seen an inaccurate meter reading from my smart meter.
