I was burgled and my laptop stolen last year. I have a backup drive that I plugged in and it saved everything. I did not store to the cloud that is why I bought the hard drive to plug in. I am a Mac user. My problem is
The hard drive is called My Passport for Mac
If anyone can take the time to explain I would be very thankful.
- I don't see my files when I plugged it in briefly
- I don't understand how it works.

If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I think the better option after much googling might be transferring the external hard drive (My passport for Mac) on to the Mac I am now using. Is there an easy way to copy this over?

All depends what you were using to perform the backups, e.g. Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner etc.1
