Is this correct?

I received an email from my energy company yesterday detailing my new direct debit with regards to energy price hikes.  In short, the increase is just short of 200% monthly on what I am paying now.  Is this correct?   Is this what other people are experiencing?  My understanding was that the increases were running somewhere between 50-60%?   I will obviously call them to discuss but just want to get my head round it before doing so.  Thank you.

Are you currently on a fixed tariff that is ending soon?
    .
You will need to compare tariffs by price in kWh and standing charge, not DD payment.

  • As above, find your annual usage from previous bills, get a calculator and do the maths for the old rates then the new.

The DD amount they are asking for should be the new annual amount divided by 12 with an adjustment if you are currently in debit or credit.

The much bandied 54% rise in April is for the AVERAGE user who is and remains on the Standard Variable tariff.

For those coming off fixes the pain is much greater.

When my fix ends in June, my annual bill based on actual usage, will go from £669 (fix) to £1500 (SV)

Right now the best fix on offer from EDF is £2400 and that will likely change.

What do your own calculations around usage over the past year using the new prices from April tell you about how much your DD should be?

My pre Oct 21 fixes EAC/12 was £82, at Oct SVR rate £133 and at April SVR rate £210 so the price change quoted is quite possible.
