We managed to get through on the phone today and they confirmed they had the will. He said the advice they give that they will confirm receipt of the documents is "misleading"....2

Thank you everyone who has posted that they’re in the same position. Very reassuring. Hope we all get what we’re waiting for!1

Crikey, I’m in exactly the same position, albeit at 13 days post receipt of the will. I second guessed myself on the Death Certificate situation and sent one anyway, as I had had conflicting information, and I didn’t want to get the position of the case being assessed, and then getting a stop put on the application incase they decided they did want the death certificate.Between Probate, and stressing about house prices going up and CGT potentially becoming due, I’m surprised I have any hair left!0

2022 death. Sent cover sheet, intermin death cert & original Will on 25th Feb. Received confirmation of receipt on 7th Mar. They then asked for some extra information regarding the Will.

I rang today to check they had everything they needed for my case. It had been five weeks since the proof of delivery date for the cover sheet plus original wiil, and I hadn't had any confirmation from the probate service.
I spoke to a nice chap who confirmed they had everything they needed. He said they were processing applications in the order they had been submitted and he noted they had a sizable backlog due to the pandemic.

I had an email today to say application received and, one minute later, another email to say application approved!1

Hi, please can you provide further information including roughly what was the date of death and significantly if the death was in 2022 and roughly when probate was applied for and if you used the online facility or paper forms.Eek_Bears said:I had an email today to say application received and, one minute later, another email to say application approved!0 -
Hello, yes. Death was just after new year so 2022. And probate was applied for at the end of January online, then it probably took me ten days to get the will in the post1

Quick update from me.Submitted online application 4/2/22, email received to confirm probate granted 18/3/22 so 6 weeks in total, that seems pretty efficient. Application included house, savings and although total assets over single persons IHT threshold I was able to add her late husband's allowance that took it under. The only document they required was the original will. My mum passed away in December and I believe the process is slightly simpler for death applications from this year. Also, glad I didn't use a solicitor who was holding the will. They gave me an estimate of at least £3,000 but I would have still had to provide them with all the information in any case. The additional work probably took me just a few hours. The confusing part I guess is to initially navigate yourself through the correct process. I found all the information that I required from knowledgeable posters on this forum so thank you.2
