The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

Yes there are lots that invest in commodities, energy and property/housing. Seems like an odd selection though.0

I had a joke with my friends back in the 1990s that we should put a fund together that invested in two certainties...toilet fixtures and funeral homes.Prism said:Yes there are lots that invest in commodities, energy and property/housing. You could probably find investments for each category, but no such investment that covers all of them. However there are other sectors you haven’t named that are consumer staples which display defensive features.
Food - supermarkets or stocks like Unilever, P&G.
Energy - water companies, large electricity companies.
Basic shelter - maybe house builders? Or REITs/property funds that own buildings for key services like healthcare or maybe public govt buildings.

I guess basic shelter is mot going to work as it will be mostly general real estate which do not seem defensive to me at all.
Will type in the search engine "commodity funds" 😬The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.

Although real estate is a potential diversifier away from the usual equity and bonds .justme111 said:I guess basic shelter is mot going to work as it will be mostly general real estate which do not seem defensive to me at all.

If only we'd all invested in that fund over the last 3 months! It's up 30%
...but shocking performance in the last 5 years. It's obviously a good investment when the economy is suffering as it is currently but when things are ticking along normally then it suffers.0 -
Are you thinking of holding a commodities fund as a small allocation along side your existing investments or are you looking to go all in on commodities and maybe energy? If its the former then the Wisdomtree fund could be a decent diversifier. If its the later then its a terrible idea.

I was thinking about purchasing it as 50% of my pension contribution this financial year.

Got it now. Ridiculous as I do not know much of what I am doing- feels like a gamble. 🤭The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
