Is it possible to claim PIP and a mobility/motability allowance or is this meant to be part of the PIP with no further allowances due?

If you have a Enhanced mobility award you can exchange that mobility payment for a mobility vehicle. You can't receive the full mobility payment and the vehicle because that's not how it works. DWP will deduct the payment for the vehicle from your payment and you will receive what's left of the award. Full details here. https://www.motability.co.uk/about/how-the-scheme-works/
There are some cars that are slightly less than the full mobility amount but not many. Some even require an advance payment before you collect the car. All you pay for during the lease though is your fuel.

I wouldn't want a motability car. I have a company lease car for which I pay £200 per month. I pay the lease out of my higher PIP award.
I suppose I'm content to carry on like this but wondered if the MA was on top of PIP but you have explained this isn't the case. Thanks.0 -
There's no such thing as a motability allowance.

that shows how out-of-touch I am!
I thought it was the Motability Sceme, then replaced by a scheme where you leased your own car (not a mobilty car). From what you say, the whole thing has been superceded by PIP and you have to make your own arrangements with the enhanced mobility component.0 -
Mobility Allowance was introduced in 1975 but was replaced first by the Mobility component of DLA and then by the Mobility component of PIP. If you don't want to use the Motability scheme you can of course use the Mobility component of your PIP award (if you have one) in any way you see fit. The advantage of the Motability scheme is that the cost is fixed other than the cost of fuel but some consider it to be an expensive way of funding a car (I don't have an opinion on that).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2

You either use the mobility award for the motability scheme or you continue to receive the money every 4 weeks. There are some people that think that motability isn't worth it but it really depends on what vehicle you want. Some are less expensive than leasing your own, some are more expensive. There's also the issue that some people have with getting finance on a car, especially if you're on low income or have issues with your credit history.Personally, the motability scheme suits me just fine. Worry free motoring is worth it's weight in gold. I'm coming towards the end of my 2nd car and have already ordered my 3rd.1 -
poppy, my original question was (I thought) straightforward. Is there a mobility allowance on top of PIP. The answer is NO. If you get the enhanced PIP (which I do) then you make your own arrangements re. what type of car you need. I'm sticking with the lease car. Many thanks for your help in clarifying this benefit.0
