I have an old (2008) PC lying around. It runs fine with XP. I’d be interested in what people would do with it, as I don’t need it?
The spec is
C2D processor 3.2GHz. IIRC
Only 1 GB of RAM, but there are two slots free.
500 GB hard disk
Onboard graphics, but there’s room for a half height card.
Wifi card

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

For round £30 you could buy 4GB RAM and a 120GB SSD drive off eBay. If you have a windows 7 licence you could then install Windows 10 and have a basic machine for internet browsing etc. however you could probably buy a complete better spec 2nd hand model for £60-£80The processor may only support 32 bit windows 101

Try running one of the flavours of Linux which requires less memory and a less-powerful CPU!
For is not each successive year "the year of Linux on the desktop"?

I think your GX620 is limited to 4GB DDR2 533/667 (max 2GB sticks).
2x2GB stick £1 each from CEX or
2x1GB cheaper to make 3GB total.
might even get the memory free on freecycle if you ask
looks like they were Pentium D the 3.2GHz would be slower than my E4500 which has 8GB and 8500GT to help it

cheap SSD, ~£16 (reusable if you give up)

Even at £20 not sure I would bother unless you have a plan for it or can reuse the SSD if you give up..
Once I find the time I have a GX80 and a GX280 to get rid of.
Kept the GX280(P4 3GHz 1GB) to try Linux mint 32bit and it's OK but firefox is slow and graphics capabilities are dire.
Got better spare machines to use.

Give it away on Freegle. No hassle, and someone who needs it gets it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I suppose that the question is more about what to do with it, once it is made useable. Would anyone actually use it?Not me, as I have more than enough PCs already. Does anyone dole these out so that they can be used? I can probably find an old screen etc to go with it, to make a fully working set up.I am pretty sure it’s a C2D processor, but I will fire it up to check. No reliance should be placed on the above! Our local Freecycle has people that do the collect and build working setups to give away as a hobby.

Google 'donate old PC to charity'.

Okay I'll find a charity, especially as it turns out to have a P4 processor.
