Can I do my mums phone assessment as an appointee?

Options
Hi all,

my mum has learning difficulties and struggles on the phone. She has a phone assessment next week and I’ve spoken to PIP and they have said as her appointee I can do the assessment for her as the appointee acts on behalf of the person.

is this true? I’m worried about the assessor refusing to speak to me and then my mum getting really distressed and then the appointment being cancelled so thought I’d ask what other people have done.

thank you

Yes, you were correctly informed. You are acting on her behalf so will be able to speak on the phone during the assessment. However, they may want to speak to her just to say "hello"
