Logging into my Virgin M account

Since I installed their app on my IPad I now always have to confirm my account via this app if I try to logon via their web site. I thought it might have been just the first time. But I have to do it every time. Does that sound right?

Yes that seems to be the case. It is for security.

It's the same with First Direct, only one device registered, in my case a phone. If I need to log on with another device I need to generate s secure code from the phone. Not tried it with Virgin M but it seems the same procedure.

In online banking, you can remove the device(s) your app runs on. IIRC, this then removes the online login confirmation via the app BUT it also removes a level of security, and you can't use the app any longer.
  • Uninstall the app and use the web browser on all devices with text message verification.

HSBC are changing their login process to allow multiple devices to be registered with their app.

No doubt that First Direct will be following suit.

Uninstalling the app alone won't remove the login check via the app. As above, you have to actually remove, in online banking, the device you run/ran the app on. Once you removed the device from online banking, your app stops working, too.

Yep, it's the norm, OTT and very unnecessary IMHO.

Whilst I agree it's over the top these are the consequences of absolving customers from liability and making banks liable for everything.

Not in my experience!  I can login to my VM/Clydesdale current accounts using:
     EITHER
     - the on-line system with a browser on my computer (with a password and a 8-digit code generated by my Clydesdale keypad security token)
    OR
     - via the VM app on an Android smartphone (with the only security being a 6-digit passcode).

I've never needed to use the app to verify access to the browser-based system.  Could this be a "feature" of the iPhone/iPad app?

I've just double-checked it today with both my and my partner's accounts and succeeded using both communications channels (though the Android app took a very long time (>30s) to allow access after submitting the passcode).
