Slow cooker help

I bought myself a slow cooker today from my local Heart Foundation shop - it cost me £10. Trouble is it doesn't have any instructions with it.
It is small (ideal for one) with a removable bowl, glass lid and a knob that turns from 0 up to 4 - dunno if that has reference to hours or heat? It claims to be a La Redoute one (I looked on the label on the bottom). Any ideas on how to get an instruction book for it, and what I can cook in it?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Sorry if I appear to be dumb but thought that a slow cooker would be cheaper than sticking the oven on each time I want to do a stew. Can I make anything else besides stew in it?

Thanks Rikki - There's enough stuff on here to keep me occupied for months! My 'new' slow cooker is small enough but it will do for a start until I can afford a newer larger one (seems that oval is better than round).0

I only have a small 21/2 litre round slow cooker and it suits me. It will feed four comfortably and make small amounts easily. Personal choice.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4
