    More likely an ill-advised or under-trained CS advisor.  As I said The People's Tariff used to have the same rates regardless of payment type.  From the new Ofgem cap in April that is changing and (like most other tariffs) it will be cheaper for DD payments.  This is probably where the confusion is and the CS people you've spoken to aren't grasping the full picture.

    Just set up the DD.  When your April bill comes its highly likely it will be charged at the DD rates, if it's not you can complain at that point.

    You don't know that to be true.
    There are many threads on this board that show BG's CS staff not to know their olecranon from their coccyx.
    Set up your DD and then see.
