Dispute with car dealer.

Really? That would mean when you buy a brand new car you are the third owner.Jumblebumble said:
The salesman told just enough of the truth to mislead the unwaryMoe_The_Bartender said:I bought a car last weekend from a well known car retailer and drove it away having been assured that it had one previous owner. I received the registration document today which showed that there were in fact two previous owners. I had specifically asked the question as no information about previous ownership was shown on the marketing material.
I have lodged a complaint and am awaiting a response but I would like to be clear as to my rights. I traded in my own car and was told that the value was adversely affected by the fact that it had three owners. I am clearly out of pocket because I have paid more for my new car because of the number of owners and received less for my trade in for the same reason.Thoughts please.
I am sure he/she knew perfectly well what information you wanted to extract by your question.
An avenue for you to explore is who is the actual owner of the car that is "in trade" at the point of sale?
The last keeper or the garage themselves ?

They have agreed to make a partial refund so there must have been some merit in my complaint. Well done to them for their response. The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.1

So you would buy a car with more than one previous owner at the right price.Moe_The_Bartender said:They have agreed to make a partial refund so there must have been some merit in my complaint. Well done to them for their response.1 -
So you wouldn't buy my car then as it would have had 2 owners, the first owner and me. But when I bought it, as the second owner, there was 8 miles on the clock, factory plastic on the seats and white writing and stickers all over the windows

You'd be the first registered keeper, unless it was pre-registered.
Number of keepers doesn't mean *that* much anyway. The single keeper could have been a rental company or it could have been a pool car, or an octogenarian with no mechanical sympathy.
A lot of changes of keeper in a short time would imply that there's some problem causing folk to want to get rid quickly.

If you bought a Rolex from a pawnbroker which someone had pawned and you asked the Pawnbroker how many previous owners it had what would he answer if he were being truthfull ?DB1904 said:

I don't think you could reasonably say zero .
Why should a car be any different just because a document talks about a keeper ?
Your point fails to differentiate between new and second hand items

But your spin means if you bought a new Rolex you'd be the third owner and my point was talking about a new car.Jumblebumble said:

The manufacturer owns the car when it's built. The dealer then owns it to sell. So the first keeper of the car is the third owner.
I don't know why you tried to spin the owner part.0 -
The correct answer is 2 former owners.
The dealer is exempt usually unless they register it for themselves as a run around.
I have also bought a Ford direct car that was preowned by Ford Leasing as the first owner with 7 miles on
The only downside was that the service was due after 6 months0
