Noted lease found on freehold property purchase

We are currently in the process of purchasing a property, and although registered as a freehold property on land reg, searches have found a noted 99 year lease from 1967 named in the original purchasers names who we believe have since passed away. since then the property has been sold twice, the current owners have lived there for 15 years however the noted lease hasn't been picked up or dealt with until now (typical) . The sellers solicitor offered an indemnity policy however we have asked them to investigate further and request they attempt to determine the lease, which was expedited to land reg but lacked any evidence. Does anyone have any experience with this situation or any suggestion on how this could be rectified? I was hoping that as the sellers have occupied for 15 years that would allow them to remove. I appreciate this is a job for the sellers solicitor not myself however they were hoping we would proceed with the indemnity and I get the impression they are unsure where to go next, and as because we don't want to pull out of the sale I have attempted to look into other options, which I have not been successful with so far, many thanks.

Have the solicitors investigated the possibility that the original lessees bought the freehold which would likely have determined the lease but the old copies are still recorded at the land registry as part of the old title information?

Thank you for your reply, as far as I know they have only applied for the lease to be determined, on the basis that the current owners have lived there 15 years and nothing relating to the lease has cropped up, and that they were unaware of it. Would the old title information be recorded under the same title deed?
