Late Payment Fees

A late payment fee was added by EON of £20 to an energy bill. The original bill was paid, albeit slightly late. EON have passed this to a debt recovery agent to chase for the late payment fee and admin charge of 11% (approx £27). The reason for the late bill is because it was never sent to the correct address and when it was, all that was sent was a letter detailing the amount owed and the dates of the bill in question - it did not have the meter readings or usage information which I attempted to obtain. This was never received and in the end I paid the bill in good faith. This all happened during the pandemic. Can they do this? Is this fair? If not and anyone has any information that I can use to fight this would be appreciated. Or maybe it just needs to be paid!

If you think they are being unfair, contact them and open a formal complaint.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
If you didn't pay the bill on time because you didn't receive it then that it grounds for a complaint and I would expect a refund of all charges.
