Hi fellow MSERs,

In the absence of competitors offering any sensible switches if at all, I'm with EDF & the latest on their website I'm being offered is the following:

Your current tariff

You're on our Welcome Variable tariff at the moment.

Your monthly estimated energy cost is £127 on your current tariff. ?

Standard Variable
£191 monthly estimate

Get our standard tariff with call centre support and no exit fees – variable rates and no end date.

Online Long-Term + BoilerCare Gold
£287 monthly estimate

Get your first 6 months of boiler maintenance on us with our low-cost online tariff – and fixed energy rates until 31 March 2024.

Total Long-Term
£287 monthly estimate

Get our full-service tariff with call centre support – rates fixed until 31 March 2024.

Best to stick with the SV? Thanks in advance.

    I have similar quotes from them and am trying to decipher the same. We are being offered a fix to Feb 2024.

  • We can only answer that question if you tell us the rates they are offering you.

    The direct debit tells nothing, it is just an assumption of your use. And sorry, I had the experience with EDF in October that they offered me a low DD, of which I thought, oh that is fair, but the kWH rates were higher than the price cap will be from April! So I would massively overpaid over the last winter.

    The only fix they offer me (Electricity only) is for 43p per kWH, so a no go for me. Until last Thursday they had a fix for 32p. But due to what's happening in the Ukraine it was removed last Friday. But probably you've been offered a decent fix.

    Nope just checked and the fix they offered was withdrawn on Friday. They say my usage on standard tariff is estimated at £173 and I can switch to £394... no thanks mateys, think I'll take my chances and get some thermals.

    The latest March fixes are very pricey so I wouldn't consider them. The older February fix withdrawn last Friday  was better but was still touch and go if it was worth taking.

    btw your estimate is almost identical to mine, similar usage. The estimate last week for the Feb 24 fix was £208 compared to the current Mar fix of £287 which shows how much it increased.

    I'm with EDF for gas. The gas fixed rate they're offering me is over 12p/kWh. As you might imagine, I'm sticking with the variable for now!

    Estimated use:
    Electricity = 4,195 kWh
    Gas = 11,107 kWh

    Unit rate:
    Electricity = 42.25p
    Gas = 12.621p

    Daily standing charge:
    Electricity = 43.39p
    Gas = 27.22p

    Thanks in advance!

    The above is the Easy Online Long-Term & Boiler Care Gold tariff, & the above charges are pretty much the same as Fix Total Service Long-Term tariff.

    That's a big "nope" from me.

    Based on current annual usage...

    If I go for one of their fixed rates, I'd pay c.£6,888 over 2 years.

    If i stayed on the Variable rate for 6 months, I'd pay £191/month for that period, & then it would need to jump to £319/month for 18 months, for me to end up paying c.£6,888 over that 2-year period.

    So in effect, as long as what I pay between Oct' 22 & Mar '24 is less than £319/month on the Variable rate or a different Fixed rate offered to me at the time, then I'll be "better off" (so-to-speak!),
