Complaint against energy company

Hi, any advice would be appreciated.
I spoke to my gas/elec company via chat last week to decide on my options regarding fixing. I was given a quote which is higher than the April price cap but overall pretty reasonable. I accepted the quote and then while it was processing was told they were having a technical problem and I couldn’t have it. They then gave me a higher, unreasonable price. I complained to the person I was talking to saying they should honor the price I was quoted. She said they would get back to me. An hour after the chat I received an email welcoming me to my new tariff. The reasonable one I was originally quoted. I assumed she had sorted everything out for me and for 5 days was under the impression I was on my new fixed rate.
I then received an email yesterday saying they couldn’t give me that tariff and would only offer me the other more expensive one.

I couldn’t believe it and not sure if they can do this?

I'd forward them the email you got yesterday and say that you assume the one you received saying you couldn't have it was sent in error and you expect them to honour the confirmation email... They MAY argue, or they may decide that on this occasion the easiest way to a quiet life is simply to honour the tariff.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
