Driving before receiving licence

My (GB) driving licence photocard expired in January, but because I haven't driven since Christmas I forgot about it.

If I renew it online, can I drive immediately after submitting the application?

    You can drive now. Only the photocard has expired, your entitlement to drive has not. Unless you're over 70.
