Unwanted repayment meter

I am disabled and I just moved into a rented property with EDF repayment meters for gas and electricity. I don't want to pay extra for repayment meters nor can I physically go out to top up cards so I'd like to change to direct debit. Is this worth doing with EDF? I was with Octopus in my last property. I've tried the energy club but it doesn't cater for repayment meters.

Request smart meters. The supplier will be glad to fit them, you'll be rid of the pre-payment ones and it will be easier for you as you won't have to submit meter readings.I have heard that Octopus are taking up to a year to fit smart meters, so it may be better to find how long EDF are taking. Once they're fitted you can then change supplier.1

It's a few years ago now but I moved into a house with prepayment meters with EDF. When I said I couldn't reach the meter without using a stepladder they came and changed the meter the next day because they said it was unsafe. If you call and say you can't get out to top the meter up, if they are still as caring, they may well change the meters. They would give you smart meters which they can set to be either prepayment or normal credit ones. It's worth giving them a call.0
