Problem with Tesco Bank car insurance renewal
Well the OH has been pulled over for driving without insurance! Which is a bit of a surprise as we have the auto renewal notice.
After much faffing about it turns out that the files for the DVLA (I think?) haven't been updated yet. But the burly police officers have confirmed with Tesco that yes there is current insurance!
Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else runs into difficulty.
Oddly - the notice says that payment could be taken up to 3 days before the renewal date - so maybe last Thursday - but nothing showing on the credit card yet.

These days, I make a point of downloading and printing out the new insurance certificate from my insurer's web site when I renew. That way I have a bit of paper I can show to the plod if they pull me over for any reason. It can take a few days for insurers to update the entry on the MID.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

A good few years ago insurers had to have a 99% record of updating it within 7 days and commercial policies, which are often update by those other than the insurer had 14 days. Given automation it wouldn't be surprising if these timescales have become shorter over time.
Part of the reason for the 99% target is because insurers do legitimately have need to make retrospective adjustments like cancelling a policy for non-payment. Failure to hit targets get substantial fines and ultimately removal from the system and you cannot write Motor in the UK if you cannot update MID.
On the plus side, you remembered who your insurers are... plenty of people don't remember and so dealing with the fuzz at the roadside is much more of a problem0
