Double Glazing Deposit

I'm looking to see what others thoughts are. I started the process of getting DG and stupidly paid a deposit of about 25% ish but fortunately paid it on my credit card. After various issues waiting for the surveyor to come out I lost faith with the company and decided to cancel the contract. This is well after any cooling off period but before the surveyor actually came out to measure up. I paid the deposit whilst at their premises and the salesman came to my house to discuss the type of windows etc but I have not actually signed any paperwork or agreement with them.
I've requested a refund which they've agreed to but they are wanting a little over £600 (about half the deposit) for costs which I'm thinking is too much given that they haven't actually done any work. I have also requested a breakdown of the costs from them.
My question is how much, if any would be appropriate for costs or should I be seeking a full refund. Or should I just go straight to my credit card company and ask them for a refund (under section 75).
Many thanks for any thoughts provided.

If you don't get a suitable reply on this section then try the consumer rights section. It used to be the case in the motor industry that if a customer cancelled an order, the dealer had to be able to justify any deposit they kept i.e. they had to prove what costs they had incurred and were passing on to you. I'm not sure whether sales commission is a valid reason.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.0
