Problem paying Partnership card statement balance

I have a John Lewis Partnership card. I have it setup such that the minimum payment is taken by DD. I then pay the remainder, usually using the feature on the website. This setup gives me flexibility as my income is uncertain.
For the last 3-4 statements, I have gone to pay the statement balance (less the minimum payment) using the JLP website. However the site has problems with my FD debit card. I think this time it said something like 'the details you entered don't match the details we hold'.
So each time I rang up to pay the bill over the phone. I use exactly the same FD debit card and I give the CS operative the same details as I entered onto the website. This last time, I also logged a complaint about this, but not sure anything will happen.
Has anybody else come across this problem? If you have, do you have a solution other than calling JLP customer services?
Thanks in advance

Ask JLP for their bank details, many card issuers have these on their website.
Alternatively there may be an option to pay directly to this on the 'pay a company' part of online banking if you can't get bank details from them. The reference will be your card number.💙💛 💔1 -

For me, the advantage of paying by the website or over the phone, JLP know I have made the payment and the date on which I made the payment. This means I can leave the payment to the last moment which is probably not sensible. In my mind bank transfers/FP can take upto 2 working days. So have considered these methods in the past but dismissed them as I need to be organised earlier.I am a little annoyed about the debit card details not being correct as both JLP and FD are associated with HSBC. But it may be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.Perhaps you are right and I need to be organised earlier and make the payment by bank transfer. Or I could bit the bullet and go for the full payment by DD.0 -
Just checked the JLP website and they say bank transfers can take 3 working days. Though they do concede FP's can be done in 2 hours, but spending enough time on these forums and I know there are instances where FP's can take longer.

Never had an issue with FP against JLP card. Shows pending same day, clears the next. However, leaving payments to the last couple of days is never advised.1

I've never had a problem with a credit card payment (although not JLP, I do hold one with the same ultimate issuer) also, the payment has always arrived at the end of the next day.
A few days before is always advisable.💙💛 💔1 -
The working day prior to the due date (assuming it's also a working day) is sufficient to meet PSR requirements.
The 3 day timeframe will just be to build in a margin for error.1 -

I would check that the address tallies up correctly. As often it is a simple difference how the address is recorded on system that throw up the error. House name Or flat no are common culprits.Life in the slow lane1 -
The payment for the February bill was due on Saturday the 26th. I tried paying on the website on Thursday, after 8pm. Didn't work.So had to pay over the phone the next day which all went through fine as far as I know. The money from my payment and the DD were both collected from my current account on Monday 28th.I have had both my current account and the Partnership card for over 15 years. And I have been at my current address for over 5 years. So hopefully the problem is not address related. The only change I can think of was the new card from FD that used Mastercard instead of Visa. My memory is poor, but I thought that changeover was in June/July time. Could be wrong on that. From what you are saying, if the payment is due on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, if I make the bank transfer on the Thursday, I should be ok? Yes I need to be more organised.0

FP has to be complete (unless delayed for something like AML checks) by the end of the next business day (Payment Services Regulations 2017) so the actual transfer cannot take any longer than 2 days. However, for credit card funding the FP is often to the card issuer's collection account, and they can then take additional time to credit the funds to your own card account, hence the 3 days.

Thanks for pointing out about collection accounts; not something I had thought about.
