Downloading a printer driver in Windows S mode

I need to connect my new laptop to my existing printer.  The laptop comes with windows S mode, and apparently I need to download software from the play store in order to connect to the printer.  The play store says that the two options available are already installed on the laptop, so why can't I connect to the printer?

Bizarrely, I can connect to the scan option on the printer and have managed to complete a scan.

Do you need it to be in S mode. Most can be converted to full Windows mode for free if you want it to be.

Oh right, S  mode seems to be a useful free anti malware protection.  It says if I come out of it, I can't get back in.

Why would you want S mode , normal has it's own (same) anti-virus , all it does it cripple the user who wants something not in the play store. Ohh and tell us what the printer make and model number

It is correct that it is a one way switch.

You can get the same protection by creating a new user who is not an admin that you use day to day and just use the admin login for when you need to do privileged activities. It will prompt for permission when required.

The printer is a canon mx510 series.

Er, I'm not using it as an admin.  Just a normal login.  Do you mean I need two separate profiles?

I think they mean in normal windows not S mode

Right, so the only thing to do is come out of S mode and get normal antivirus?

Don't get hung up on the S-mode thing. If you need software from the Microsoft Store (not the Play Store, that's Android stuff) then you can download and run it. What message are you getting when you try to print? Are you connecting wired or wirelessly?What does the manual say you need to do to set up for windows?

It says printer driver not installed, then directs me to the play store, but the options available in the play store are already installed. 

Which manual, the one for the laptop or the printer?   The printer is old so I'd have to see if there's a manual online.
