I'm looking to get quotes to cover unemployment as well as injury/illness, I've only come across one supplier which seems a bit odd, I thought there were loads of them, any pointers, please?

Sounds like you are looking for the budget version that's better known as PPI or ASU?

Because they are annual policies lots of companies stopped writing it, particularly the unemployment aspect, due to Covid and so lots of people finding their policies not being renewed or being renewed on premiums 3-5x what they were charged last year. They are being very cautious about re-entering the market for new business.

The market for PPI was at deaths door following the PPI misselling issue.   A lot pulled out with that.  Then CV came along and for a period you could not buy it at all and many providers ended cover on policies already in force.     There has since been a few companies return to the market but you are not going to see many.
