Time limit to receive fine?

Hello, I recently got caught a few minutes from my house without my seat belt on. (Stupid James)
I heard there was a limit of 14 days a day after from when you got a speeding ticket, does that apply with seatbelt offence or is that just a myth?
Thankyou.
(I was definitely in the wrong)

There is a 14 day limit to send the first notice of intended prosecution & request for the driver's details (for most traffic offences) to the named keeper, unless the driver was identified at a roadside stop- which I guess you were, so you will have to wait for a conditional offer of fixed penalty (£100 and 3 points I believe).
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Did they follow through with the threat of points? I think it's still non endorsable but put up to £100.

Actually a NIP is only required for about 5 offences - most traffic offences do not require one. It's just that the few that do include some of the most common offences - speeding, red lights, careless driving etc.

In the case of not wearing a seat belt no NIP is required so the 14 day rule doesn't apply at all - whether or not you were stopped at the time

There are also no points for a seat belt offence - just a fine.

Even if the OP wasn't stopped, no NIP is required for that offence so the 14-day limit dosn't apply.
  • I was stopped and given details to the officer, was told it would be a £100 fine and a day course or online course and like £32.
i had a parking ticket couple years back and hadn’t received a letter through the post until final warning which is why not receiving a letter 11 working days later kind of gives me anxiety lol
     thankyou for the reponses  though

It'll be a fine or a course not both. (But the course will cost)
