pre existing conditions medical insurance

Does anyone know if there is a web site or which company is the cheapest when taking out travel insurance covering someone who has a pre-existing medical condition which has to be declared before travelling ? resulting in quite a hike in premiums.

I think it will depend on the pre condition.
Basically if there is a great probability of you having to claim because of the pre-condition they will load your premium to cover this eventuality. If you suffer a minor non life threatning condition some insurers wil make a note of it and agree to cover you for no increase in premium.
Shop around is my best advice.

They started out covering for HIV but now cover for everything and the price does not alter depending on your condition if they accept you its one price, its about £135 for a couple worldwide
    or about £85 for europe
I got my mom cover whos 75 and had heart attack
*forgot to say these are annual prices not single trip*
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

    Normal 1 week Europe = £20 (for 2 people) (£50 excess)

Advantage premier Plus, where we both declared existing medical conditions, concerning cholesterol, heart, slipped disc etc, price was just £26, with conditions still covered.
Medical conditions are printed on policy.
    £35 excess
    Medical £10m
    etc etc.

I used to work on the telesales line for RAC insurance. They weren't the cheapest around, but would cover most existing conditions.

Edit: Your question is which one is cheapest. This can't be answered here I'm afraid but by you calling all the brokers. If there are people on this board working for the insurance companies then it may help posting what the condition is, but otherwise you just have to check every company.

Many insurers will cover you for everything excluding the declared pre-existing condition e.g. if you have been hospitalised for Depression in the past they will cover you for everything but the Depression.

If, as in the above case, it is not important that you are covered for that condition whilst you are away this should not effect your premium.

Well assuming you are accepted that is great news. They must surely have to average out the extra risk across all of their other policyholders though?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just what I was going to ask. We (myself and my two boys) are going away in the Summer and we all suffer with asthma to varying degrees so this is spot on info for us. Thanks everyone. :D

Insured myself and my 10yr old son who has a pre existing rare genetic condition with Direct Line last august. They gave us £62 total for both of us for Worldwide Annual Insurance.
    Hope that helps
