First EDF bill
So hi all
I am so shocked this morning. My first bull came through from EDF and its the first time we are doing whete tou build up credit and then pay it. We used to pay monthly so this is probably why we are shocked.
They are saying we have used 795 gas units which has converted tk 9124kw and charging us 474 quid without the standing charge. Electricity they have charged us 206 at 876kw.
So our bill has come to 751 quid from October to now including standing charges. Now we are 400 odd quid in debit as they were taking 64 quid a month in dd and now they want 182 a month.
I am so shocked because I think this is a high bill and we used to pay monthly with bulb. Is this gas usage normal or just not?
Also they want another reading from now to end of march. They say to get accurate reading bit surely the reading I gave them is accurate.

Look back on your Bulb bill for the same period Oct 20 - March 21 - ignore the ££'s but what was the consumption in KWh. ?
Are the readings on todays bill Estimated or Actual. ?
I'm also with EDF and don't like their 6 month billing - if other can send a statement monthly why can't EDF.
Edit to add
Gas consumption sounds OK for a winter period; electric rather low. Are the bills based on your readings or are they Estimates?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Give them the readings they have asked for and make sure you give them on the 31st of March, as prices go up again on April 1st

I’ve only ever had one bill from EDF since moving to them in December 2020.
For this reason I maintain a pretty basic spreadsheet to record consumption each month based on my own readings and pay additional amounts from time to time in order to avoid arrears. Might pay you to start doing the same as their website platform no longer shows you a balance like it used to.
As previous poster says, make sure you provide a reading on 31 March!0 -

Agree with the spreadsheet - it doesn't need to be complicated - some here will calculate to the nearest penny - for me the nearest £5 is good enough. But keep reading those meters and give them to EDF
My Electric and Gas are both with EDF (following the collapses of GNE and Zog) EDF billing cycles are challenging - had an Electric last August and expected the next in February - that went out to March - back to February 24th but no sign of that. . EDF seems to struggle with the 11,700 customers that were ZOG's - no indication at all of a billing date.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You can pay monthly if you wish, EDF offer Direct Debit Whole Amount Monthly, but that means high bills in winter.
If you are on a fix then be prepared for even more pain when that ends and if on the SV tariff you need to factor in the April 1st rise.

I'm on fiz until October 2024. I can't get to my bills from bulb as I dont have account with them anymore.
Also they want anoyher reading from now to the 25th march.
Am I able to pay the money off now rather than have my dd go up a massive amount. I have savings to pay it off.Mortgage free wannabe

If you fixed in October then I'm guessing that your unit rates in that fix are going to be a LOT higher than you were previously paying Bulb, so I'm afraid that your DD would need to go up anyway. Going forwards you need to budget to be setting aside the right amount each month as raiding savings to pay utility bills isn't a great plan unless it's absolutely the only option.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Roughly (assuming these are actual figures and not estimated) - with a winter gas of 9124 KWH - your annual consumption would be approx 12,000 and at the old rates of 5p = £600; electricity does move much in a year so annual 2,000 at 25p = £1000
Add in standing charges and VAT that's about £1,800 - no wonder you are getting a catch up of £400.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
@Sncjw what is the NAME of the tariff you are now on and what are the unit rates and standing charges ?
