Am I being Unreasonable?

Sorry for your loss, but I'm afraid I have to agree with everyone else.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -
Thanks for your replies everyone, the car had full service history and was my Mums pride and joy, which is why I’d wanted to keep it, I let sentiment get the better of me.
the garage has said it’s a gearbox, it’s a big job and looking at 2k to fix it. The new battery wasn’t an issue, it had stood for some time so I expected that.Ive taken note of your comments and won’t be asking for any money from the estate to get it fixed.
does anyone know what reasonable expenses I can claim for all of the work I’ve done to sort out the estate? I’m joking 🙃0 -
Well, leaving the joking aside, you can claim for any expenses actually incurred, apart from your time (unless you are appointed and acting in a professional capacity, which I'm guessing you're not).maddie67 said:

So my co-exec and I claimed postage, necessary mileage, something for phone calls, stationery - I can't immediately think of anything else, but none of that seems unreasonable.Signature removed for peace of mind3 -

Postage, stationary, telephone charges, car mileage. Costs can easily mount up.maddie67 said:

Plus, you may choose to pay bills due to the estate and reclaim - you don't HAVE to, but if there are utility bills and you KNOW the estate is solvent, you may decide to pay those bills yourself and reclaim the cost. Obviously - or perhaps not - you won't be able to reclaim anything until you have an Executor's Account with some assets paid into it. We were able to get bank balances paid into the Exec Account and made interim payments from that, plus reclaiming our expenses. I can't remember if we had to pay any bills or not, but we'd have been able to do that from the Exec account if that was simpler than paying ourselves and reclaiming.Thrugelmir said:

Surely if the car formed part of the estate and you inherited jointly you only paid him half the value of the car?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "3
