I stopped buying the expesive white goods brands a long time ago when I realised you are just paying for the name.

There is as many coplaints about them as the cheaper brands so if a cheaper brand goes at least its half the price.
a washing machine engineer told me a few years ago that the best value   washing machine was the cheapest Bosch you could buy. less to go wrong and he saw very few problems with them

There's a saying "buy cheap, buy twice!" -- but in cases like this, buying three cheap ones and no extended warranty, you'd still come out ahead :)

On the "last person to finally adapt to VHS" ...

Are you sure of that?  What year... ?
    1984........ can you beat?
Easily. First VHS recorder, 1992. Ferguson Videostar front loader, to timeshift programmes while at Uni. :)

That's late.  Did your family (or you) not have one before going to university?

No -- never needed one. All TV was watched live, and we didn't go in for renting films. In the event of a programme conflict, there was more than 1 TV, so that was fine :)

I went a bit OTT when I had to buy a new oven/hob/ when a new kitchen was being fitted.  Just before the installation washing machine broke, then the next week my tumble dryer broke lol.  I bought a Samsung Direct drive washing machine.., nearly three times the price I normally paid.  The door flap that allows you to add items mid wash flops open when you breath hard, as does the cover for the drainage hose.  So instead of bending down less I am constantly chasing after doors that open.  The machine has automatic soap and conditioner drawers, its never added conditioner to a wash.  I've taken them out, cleaned everything I can find etc.

I was so so much better off with my less 'top notch' washing machine.  And it was so much cheaper.

Same for an expensive microwave that I bought to replace my working ancient one.  It also was supposed to have extra facilities, none of which I use because they didn't work.  Total waste of money.

So never again will I unleash my love of gadgetry on white goods purchases.  Its generally untested gadgetry, and you pay a very high premium for it.  Plus it turns out Samsung have an awful customer services response.  Never again will I buy Samsung anything.
  • Ask for advice from both Bosh and Curry's via their complain procedure and directly from their GM's (CEO's).

In your email state: "... This is not acceptable for a well-known, reputable brand such as Bosch. I bought this appliance with the expectation that it will last a reasonable time, and in no way XXX years is considered reasonable".
