Moving home in a couple of weeks! what happens with the energy

We are moving to our first home in a couple of weeks and Unsure what happens with the energy. We dont have a current supplier so this is fresh for us. Will we take on the same tarrif as the current owner has or do we register with the current owners supplier and they give us a new tarrif? I ask as this is currently different with there being no options to get deals elsewhere at the moment

You will register with the existing supplier and pick a tariff with them, do remember that you do not have to take a fixed tariff if you don't want to, you can insist on remaining on the capped variable tariff.
... but also consider that the cap is going to rise considerably on 1st April...

    Welcome to the forum.
Just read the meters on the day you take possession, give your name, address and DD details to the existing supplier(s), and decline any fixed offers for the time being. That's it !
    Enjoy your new home.

You will go on the standard variable tariff (STV) of whichever supplier the previous owner/tenant was with. At the moment that is probably the best deal you'll get, as fixes are more expensive than the STV. If there isn't a letter, or other indication, from legal papers etc, who the supplier is, you can look it up on the DNO's (Distribution Network Operator) website. If you don't know the DNO, that can also be looked up online.

Yes, good point. It can save argumants later, particularly if the previous owner has thought that understating their final reading is a clever wheeze.
