Which is the best supermarket takeaway?

Having our usual treat tonight a takeaway.

But thinking of money saving at getting one of those supermarket takeaways, the one`s in the bags.

But which one`s do you recomend? and any idea when best to get a reduced one?

Spend approx £10 on a takeaway for two, is it cheaper.

I got caught out buying a couple of Sainsbury's Chinese takeaway bags one night when we had friends coming round.

Foolishly I thought it would just be a case of turning the oven on and bunging all the various dishes in. Wrong! The all had to go in for different lengths of time, on different height shelves, and at different temperatures. I was in a right flap by the time I'd co-ordinated it all :(.

Not wanting to put you off, but do be prepared for a measure of hassle you don't get with the ready prepared ones. Worth paying a bit extra just for that!

I've not found them much hassle. Occasionally you may have to pop a few things in a few minutes later but as regards oven temps:confused: I re-heat everything at 220 c and to heck with what the box says:D Infact if my oven only had one temp as long as it was 220 c I could cook anything!

The best takeaways are the ones that are half price. We've tried them all as takaway is Mrs MATH and my Friday night treat. We are lucky that between us we have Coop, Tesco, Sommerfield, Asda, M&S and Sainsbury's accesable. One or other will always have a deal.

Asda's chicken korma and rice/chicken tikka and rice are really nice (I usually hate soggy instant meals)

They're not the ones in the bags (deli) but the ones in the chiller cabinets where they have indian, chinese and italian ready meals.

You 'do' have to faff with them a bit (stopping to add water and stir) but they're worth it for a quick meal.
Just run, run and keep on running!

Well having been off the curries due to calorie counting we did have one friday night for being good and attending work all week. So off I went to tesco's for a change, had a voucher and needed a few bits. So I got a 2 person bag
    1 x chicken tikka masala
    1 x chicken Korma
    2 x pileau rice
    2 small nan bread
    1 x bombay potatoes
    This came to 5.10
I also bought a chicken biriany and another chicken Korma 2 x 4.00
Total 9.10 (bottle of white wine, 4.99)
It was to feed 3- Me and 2 kids, all healthy appetities
In the main it was a disapointment, the sauces were runny, the chicken pieces were very small. The biriyani was strange, the normal rice and then a sort of sauce on top I stirred it in but it wasn't right. The bombay pots were ok. The nans were unbelievable small, like kids mini pizza size.
We are everything, non left but not full to bursting as our usual asda one
I'll go back to asda next time, was disapointed. It works out cheaper than a 'proper' takeaway, unless you do as I do and get 2 x bottles of wine, sweets for the kids and a magazine cos you can't get those in our local takeaway.

p.s. to my first reply - Well I admit we had got well into the liquid refreshments of the evening before I even tackled the "cooking", and then I found I'd torn off the top of the on-bag instructions, and there weren't any on the inner packages. So yes I probably had myself to blame for the ensuing confusion! :o.

It was quite tasty too, once I'd got it dished up. So apologies to Sainsburys, it wasn't your fault - okay? ;)

Far & away the best supermarket "takeout" is a Waitrose curry. They are top notch. However, curries round here are dead cheap & I can get an authentic one delivered to the door for about the same price as I can buy one in Waitrose (that's before I've driven all the way to a Waitrose).
Asda ones aren't bad, but never seem quite right somehow.

We have an Asda nearby and to be honest the only good thing about it is the Curry Bar!

I have had a few meals for 2 or meals for 3 depends who is home, we like the Jalfrezi and the tikka masala. Agreed it's a bit more hassle than just phoning the local curry house who deliver but it's also about half the price. I always buy the standard Nans as extras because the ones you get in the deal are minute and we like our Nans in this house!

Never had a problem with different temps, I just bung it all in on high and it works out OK!;)

Sainsburys curries always were the best especially their 3 colour rice!! But i find Safeway's the best, sauces are thicker and more meat!! Although I have yet to find a chinese one that I like!! the somerfield one is YUCK

Waitrose and Asda certainly do the best Indian meals, Sainsburys about equal too. The fresh ones from Iceland are also pretty good. Tesco on the other hand.... oh dear! Runny, oily sauces, hardly any chicken, and their idea of pilau rice seems to be normal rice coloured yellow, not a hint of cardomen seeds or cloves.

Never found supermarket Chinese to be that good, except for Asda Extra Special Peking Crispy Duck when bought reduced to clear! We've had some real curry bargains from Old Kent Road Asda, including the Indian meal for 4 reduced to £2.50.
