Octopus Energy tarriff price

Hi,
Sorry if this is seems like a silly question - I've just moved out on my own into a one-bed apartment with electric only and have kept on with Octopus Energy as this is what is currently supplied with the apartment.
I have gone through the initial set-up and saw that when they have me tarriffs to choose from that the cheapest they could offer me was one that costs £207 a month on a fixed tarriff, however when I checked their own website for a quote on this place I've been offered £65 a month fixed tarriff. I called them just now asking if I can get this changed so I'm on the cheaper tarriff and they said that there is nothing they can do to give me a cheaper rate as they don't know past usage and only have one meter reading from when I moved in? Any advice would be great

Whenever you move into a new property you and the supplier have to make a guess at your annual usage. Fixed tariffs are only fixed in terms of duration and prices. The more energy that you use the more you will pay. Your monthly payment is money which goes into a virtual ‘piggy bank’ from which charges for actual energy used are deducted.1 -
I had this when I moved into my new house. Bulb bizarrely felt that the family of four's previous usage in this house was a better guide than my previous usage in my old house. Their argument was they had to link usage to the house (and therefore the previous family) rather than look at my usage in a similar sized property. It was such a silly argument when I could evidence my usage.
So even though I could tell them my annual usage, they refused to accept it - and wanted to charge me £180 a month instead of £80. I told them no thanks, and I was changing supplier. They quickly happily accepted £80 which, to this day, is still too much.
If you can evidence your usage, argue that case first, and up it by 50% to take account of the price hike.
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
When you moved in and gave the meter reading the tariff you should be on is their standard variable rate, their plans normally allow people to change tariffs if a cheaper option comes along.Someone please tell me what money is0

Any advice would be greatWhat is the exact name of the tariff you are on?It is just that given how close we are now to the price changes in April, it is not quite so certain that the variable rate is the best choice for you, especially if you got that fix a couple of weeks ago...
