Hi. I need to set up a little website for our small business, just like a brochure online really. I have no problem with HTML and all that and can put it together ok but I am a bit confused with how I get it onto the net. I do get personal webspace with my ISP which I am using at the moment for family stuff for relatives to look at, but I dont really want to use that web address as it is my name. I am going to purchase a domain name and wondered how I can ensure that if someone types the domain name in it will divert to my ISP's free webspace?
Anyone any ideas and where's best to buy the domain name from?
cheers

i use oneandone.co.uk for domain and email forwarding. think some others on here have had bad experiances with them, though i never have.
Cost me about five pounds for 2 years.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
have a look at https://www.hostingsimply.com. for less than US$50/year, you get webspace and a free .com domain.0

ukreg.com for registering domains - they include forwarding which can mask the address seen in the address bar and divert to your site on your ISP's space..
Or get proper hosting. I know people recommend 34sp.com0 -
As others have said, you can use masked forwarding from your domain name provider. It means you upload your website to your free webspace you get from your ISP. Then you follow the instruction on 'web forwarding' on your domain name provider's website. So when someone types in 'www.carspares.co.uk' it will take you to 'mywebspace.myisp.co.uk' but will show only 'www.carspares.co.uk' in the browser's address bar.
For example,
http://easily.co.uk/index.php3?exe=faq&noss=1&sb=n&do=d&id=263
"How do I forward my domain to a website?
To administer your web forwarding login to your Control Panel, click on the 'D' button and then the 'W' alongside your domain name. Here you can use the drop down menu to select "External Website (Web Forwarding)", then click the "Change" button.
Web forwarding points your domain at another website. Please ensure you enter the full http address eg http://www.easily.co.uk
If you wish to use page-specific forwarding (eg https://www.yourdomain.com/clients) please add a trainling slash (/) to the forwarding address eg http://www.easily.co.uk/
If you wish to use masked forwarding (this is when your domain name remains in the address bar rather than showing the actual website address you are being forwarded to), then select the "Frames" option."0 -
thanks for your replies. The other thing I need to think about is uploading my website. I have previously used ws-ftp lite (ipswitch) but you only get a free trial on those Anyone know of a good site to download a non trial version?Matched betting proceeds so far: £505.000

Windows 95/98/NT - I'm using it with XP so it's also ok with that.0 -
welink,
Re-directing a domain name is usually simply. Let's say you have a site welink.x.com and x.com is your ISP, then you need to pay the domain name company an extra fee and they will re-direct your .com domain name to welink.x.com.
Cheers
