MacBook external hdd

I have got an external hdd for my MacBook and just figured out transferring photos etc, I have deleted the photos from the MacBook so they are just on the ext hdd now, but when I went to put something on ebay and add photos I clicked on the ext hdd to choose photos then photos library and clicked but then nothing happens and it seems to lag the MacBook and nothing happens, but I can click on photos app and see and edit the photos on the hdd, any clue what is happening?

Are you storing your photos in Photos (used to be helpful when it was called iPhotos) or just on the drive? The fact you mention a library it sounds like you are.

Assuming you are then you don't navigate to the other drive but across down the right bar to Media/Photos and select that, it will open up your Photos library wherever it happens to be stored.

I deleted them from photos and just had them on the ex drive, but when I navigate to the ex drive to pick photos it only comes up with photos library but doesn't open to show photos when clicked.

There wouldn't be a library if you have done what you said and just copied individual files, you's see a folder with a load of jpg files etc
  • This looks like a duplicate to me. As I said in response to your other thread: If I remember correctly it's all to do with your Photos library. If you have iCloud it can get really complicated since the default behaviour is to automatically sync your computer or library with your iCloud account.

Best option might be to see if there's a Mac User Group local to you: you'll get better help there.
